I am humbled by the 100 signatures on a petition nominating me as a candidate for the SCSD board.

For those of you who don’t know me yet, my name is Chaim J Feig, I’m a father of 7 beautiful children, all of which attend private schools.

I believe “what goes around comes around.” I have been fortunate in my life with having my needs met, and I’m always looking for ways to give back to the community and others in need.

First of all, I have been doing volunteer work to contribute to the community. I proudly served as the Fire Commissioner of the Monsey Fire District 2017-2022. It’s been more than a decade that I have been involved in volunteer medical services. I was privileged to volunteer as an EMT for Rock Hill EMS in Rock Hill, NY, as well as Spring Hill and Faist Ambulance where I saved countless lives. Presently, I serve as a volunteer Paramedic at Hatzalah, which is an EMS organization serving communities nationwide.

Recently, I relocated with my family to the charming Village of Suffern. I was surprised to learn that I will need to transport my children to and from school daily, as the district doesn’t offer buses for my children according to their school schedules.

As a parent, I’ll do anything for my children’s education and success. Along with many other parents in this situation, trying to juggle work and community service, I spend valuable time each morning and afternoon as their school transporter.

Additionally, the Suffern Central School District does not fund Title One programs or therapy services in private schools the way it is offered in the Public School. This causes parents to pay out of pocket for services generally provided by school districts. With the enrollment at SCSD decreasing, and the number of private school families on the rise, it is time to adjust to the current needs of Suffern residents. Like my community, neighbors, and friends, I pay my fair share in taxes, while also paying out of pocket for my children’s education, transportation, and tutoring when these expenses should have been covered by my school tax dollars.

I accepted the nomination to run for School Board Member to represent the parents like myself. We are hardworking individuals, paying our mortgage and school bills, and to top it all off, rising property tax. Furthermore, the school taxes are sky-high, and we get next to nothing in return. I am looking forward to working together with the board members on these important issues that must be addressed. I plan to be a representative to all children. I ask for your vote, so I can work to make effective change.
