(New City, NY) Today Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) announced in a video posted to social media that he is running for Congress in the 17th district.

In the video, Senator Carlucci praised Congresswoman Nita Lowey who recently announced her retirement after 31 years in office.

“Congresswoman Lowey has always been a fighter for us in Washington, and now that she has announced her retirement we’re at a crossroads,” said Senator Carlucci.

Senator Carlucci went on to explain why he is the best candidate for the job, citing his 9 years of experience in the New York State Senate where he represents Rockland and Westchester County residents.

“Since being reelected to the State Senate last year, I’ve been able to pass more legislation to make it to the Governor’s desk than any other lawmaker in the State of New York.”

In the State Senate, Carlucci has contributed widely to the Democratic Majority’s historic legislative accomplishments. He helped pass historic voting reforms, the Child Victims Act, the Reproductive Health Act, and made the property tax cap permanent.

In the video, Carlucci also took a jab at President Trump, stating he has created a “toxic environment” in Washington.

Carlucci said that as a Member of Congress, he will be focused on fighting for affordability for the hardworking families of Westchester and Rockland County, as well as focusing on education, climate change, gun reforms, women’s rights, and comprehensive immigration reform to repair the harm done by President Trump.
