New City, NY, – Rockland County Executive Ed Day named Jacki Scott as his choice for Director of the newly restored Office for People with Disabilities.

“The Office for People with Disabilities was eliminated as a separate department during the financial crisis by the previous administration in 2007 with the former Director retiring in 2011 leaving the office defunct. As part of our regular re-evaluation of the needs of our residents, we recognized that having a powerful advocate as Director of this Office is critical to serving their needs,” said County Executive Ed Day. “I welcome Jacki Scott to the Director position and look forward to working closely with her to ensure her recommendations and ideas are implemented across the County.”

Jacki Scott previously served as a Community Employment Specialist at the Guidance Center of Westchester from April 2016, to May 2019. In this role, she worked collaboratively in interagency community groups to provide training with ACCES-VR (Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation) to improve employment outcomes for youth with disabilities, developed materials to keep all stakeholders up to date on the latest resources, opportunities and experiences available to them, and engaged with other community based agencies to work hand-in-hand to provide services for students with disabilities.

“Jacki has been a passionate advocate for people with disabilities for many years. I have every expectation that in her new post within County Government she will ensure that all our residents have fair access to the services we provide and that everyone will be able to exercise their rights,” said Day.

Areas of focus for the Office and Director Jacki Scott include:

  • Advising and assisting the County Executive’s office, the County Legislature and County agencies in developing policies designed to meet the needs of people with disabilities.
  • Working in close coordination with community based organizations, school districts and the Rockland County Disability Advisory Council.
  • Serving as an informational resource and advocate for people with disabilities in all aspects of their lives and helping to connect them to available services.

Jacki Scott earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater from the University of Miami and a Master of Arts in Bilingual/Cross Cultural Education from the University of California at Los Angeles with Certification in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). Her first day was Monday, June 3, 2019. The job pays $73,775 annually.
