Its been years since the Suffern Police and Suffern Fire Departments have squared off to play hockey but the highly anticipated friendly matchup finally took place.

The Suffern Fire Department’s bench looked like the SPD’s lockup on St. Patrick’s Day as it was overflowing with players eagerly looking to make up for the loss they suffered the last time these two sides met.

Playing for the SPD was former Suffern High School goaltender Nick Tiso who scored two goals while managing to avoid the penalty box as he chirped away at the SFD’s entire bench.

On the Fire Department’s side, Ben Davis, looking like a fish out of water, Joe Modica who as a member of the NYPD may have been somewhat conflicted and their fellow teammates put forth a brave effort.

The game wasn’t without controversy as the Suffern Fire Department felt that they had scored a goal however our photos clearly show the ball was in the blue paint of the goal crease.

The Suffern PD with a much smaller squad, sparked by William Osborn and Tyler Stark was on fire the entire game.  In the end it turned out to be a fire that the Fire Department couldn’t extinguish as the Suffern Police won 8-3.

The Suffern Fire Department clearly didn’t have great blue liners but did win the consolation prize by having the best overall one-liners.
